Cardboard ink cartridges from Mimaki

With these new eco-designed ink cartridges, Mimaki reduces plastic use per product by 68%.

Japanese supplier of inkjet printers, cutting plotters and 3D printers Mimaki is reducing the use of plastics in its ink cartridges, with a new eco-designed, cardboard packaging. Intended for Mimaki's eco-solvent printers, these cartridges, which have already been launched on the Japanese market in May 2023, arrive in Europe, the Middle East and Africa this summer.

By switching from plastic to cardboard, Mimaki reduces the use of plastic per cartridge by 68%, which represents around 44 tonnes less plastic and 65 tonnes less CO2 emissions per year.
What's more, the reduced weight of these cardboard cartridges has an impact on CO2 emissions during transport, a reduction estimated by Mimaki at eight tonnes.

Mimaki has also been working on other environmental measures, such as the reduction since March 2023 of cushioning material in 2L ink packs in all ink production plants.
