Imprimerie Gresset: end of production in the Jura after 90 years in business

The Ney site of Imprimerie Gresset, a long-standing player in the Jura printing industry, will cease operations for good on December 31, 2024, resulting in the redundancy of 35 employees. This closure marks the end of an emblematic site and illustrates the upheavals the printing industry is going through.

The Gresset Rault Solutions printing works, created by the merger of Gresset Services and Rault Eppe Solutions in 2021, has ceased production at its Ney site. Founded in the 1930s, this printing works had successfully evolved, integrating continuous offset in the 1970s and diversifying into logistics services and personalization. However, the structural decline of printed paper, particularly in the management and banking document sectors, rendered the site's business model obsolete.

Employees at Ney were informed in May 2023 of the imminent closure. At issue was a refocusing strategy decided by management, involving the transfer of production and logistics to other sites in the Indre, Nièvre and Aveyron regions. This choice left little hope for the 35 employees affected by the redundancies. The gradual shutdown of the machines over the last few months marked a poignant end for the site, once considered an institution in the Jura region.

The Ney site had been facing an erosion of orders and print volumes for several years. The takeover in 2014 by a team of former employees, in association with the Paragon group, was initially intended to consolidate operations, but the lack of investment to modernize equipment and diversify offerings exacerbated the difficulties.
