Laballery has reached a milestone with its Jetvarnish 9000 L and KM1 press. The Clamecy, Nièvre-based company, which specializes in book production, has printed ten million pages on its AccurioJet KM-1e HD UV inkjet press and over two million B2 sheets embellished on MGI Konica Minolta's JetVarnish 9000 L in three years.
Waste reduction and resource management
These machines, which work in tandem, offer great flexibility of use, and enable gilding and varnishing to be achieved while optimizing production times, according to the printer. They are also environmentally friendly," explains Hubert Pédurand, the company's managing director when installing the AccurioJet KM-1e in 2022: KM-1 UV-cured inks improve print resistance and reduce the need for lamination.
UV inkjet printing also reduces paper waste to less than 1% of the print run, saving tens of thousands of sheets each year. At the same time, production times are optimized: a four-color print that took 30 minutes in offset can be completed in 3 minutes with the AccurioJet KM-1e HD, improving the number of pages produced daily.
Growing demand for finishes
Today, the printer notes that more and more book covers are being embellished. For example, he produced Freida McFadden's entire Housekeeper series in large format for City Editions. There is also a growing demand for pocket-format books with laminated covers and selective varnish.
