The increase in transactional and personalized marketing work is making quality control more complex. Simple visual inspection is no longer enough to guarantee the conformity of a barcode or nominative information. Canon has launched the C1 verification unit for its imagePress V range of digital color presses. This module replaces a first version launched in 2021.
Positioned in-line at the press exit, the C1 module ensures sheet-to-sheet control without manual intervention, thanks to the Auto Reference Data (ARD) function.
The ARD tool uses the RIP data to generate a reference image for comparison. Unit C1 then detects dust, stains, scratches and print defects according to configurable thresholds. In the event of an anomaly, the sheet is ejected and reprinting restarted automatically.
For jobs containing barcodes, the C1 module reads and validates each element by comparing it with pre-stored CSV data. In duplex configuration, the tool can also read and verify text in defined areas on both sides, thus avoiding layout errors.
In addition to variable content, the unit monitors color variations at specific points on the document. Any detected fluctuation triggers purging or recovery operations.
Finally, the C1 verification unit generates reports that can be exported as PDF or CSV files. PDF files include summaries and control images. These elements can be used as supporting documents for clients, particularly in regulated or sensitive environments.
The C1 Verification Unit can be seen in demonstration at Canon's Customer Experience Centre in Venlo, the Netherlands.
