Europe's first Highcon Beam 2C in production

Laser cutting is expected to offer new design and design possibilities for packaging and displays.

The German packaging group Thimm has just put into production a new Highcon Beam 2C digital laser cutting machine. With this investment, Thimm, which has around 3,500 employees in six countries and a turnover of 645 million euros, hopes to expand its corrugated cardboard converting capacity and to offer finishes that were previously impossible to achieve.

Installed at the Czech production site in V?etaty, the new Highcon Beam 2C digital finishing machine of the latest generation is the first of its kind in Europe. Laser technology makes it possible to produce filigree patterns on corrugated board that were difficult or even impossible to achieve before.

Highcon's Beam 2C cuts, engraves and creases corrugated board from 1 to 4 mm at speeds of up to 4,000 B1 sheets per hour. The process is digital, no additional dies are required.

"The manufacture of packaging and displays takes a new step forward with digital laser cutting, indicates the packaging producer. Our customers benefit from new design and construction possibilities that only precision laser technology can offer. Likewise, for designers, marketers and buyers, this new digital laser cutting technology has many advantages."

Michael Weber, the company's marketing director, added: " We are convinced that laser-cut packaging and displays are of interest to a variety of industries and we are currently assisting our customers in developing new packaging and display options to give them a competitive edge"
