New UVgel ink plant for Canon

Inks for the Colorado range are in high demand.

Canon has opened a new ink production facility, which has been operating at full capacity since December 1, 2019. This plant in Venlo, the Netherlands, manufactures the Uvgel inks launched in 2017 and dedicated to the manufacturer's large-format reel-to-reel machines.

Demand for UVgel inks is rising sharply

"The new UVgel ink production facility will enable us to supply our customers and partners with sufficient quantities to help them cope with an ever-increasing workload." says Dirk Brouns, Vice President Large Format Graphics at Canon Production Printing.

In 2019, the production of UVgel inks for the Colorado range doubled in volume terms. And the installation of more than 1,200 large-format web printers last year should further increase demand. On average, printers are printing 15,000 m 2 per year with a Colorado and at some printers, the annual production volume exceeds 100,000 m 2 .

An eco-designed Canon factory

It took less than a year to design this new site. "However, we have prioritised the environmental aspect by working on operational efficiency, says Rob Puts, Vice President Manufacturing and Logistics at Canon Production Printing.

It states: "We save energy by redirecting the cooling capacity generated by other nearby production sites, and by using a heat exchanger that heats the fresh air entering the premises by redistributing the warm air emitted at the production level."
