Horizon and Canon automate brochure production at Hunkeler Innovationdays 2025

The combination of Horizon's StitchLiner Mark V saddle stitcher and Canon's varioPRINT iX3200 inkjet press enables finished brochures to be produced directly from blank sheets, without intermediate handling.

At the 15th Hunkeler Innovationdays 2025 (HID), currently being held in Lucerne, Switzerland, Horizon and Canon are presenting an inline brochure production solution consisting of the Horizon iCE StitchLiner Mark V and the Canon varioPRINT iX3200 sheetfed inkjet press. This is the first time such a configuration has been presented.

In-line production for greater efficiency

The combination of the StitchLiner Mark V saddle stitcher and the varioPRINT iX3200 press enables A4 brochures and magazines to be produced directly from blank sheets, without intermediate handling. This optimizes the production flow, reducing downtime and guaranteeing high output while maintaining a high level of quality.

Flexibility and productivity with the StitchLiner Mark V

On its own stand, Horizon is exhibiting a second StitchLiner Mark V connected to Hunkeler's web processing technology. This configuration enables booklets of varying formats and thicknesses to be produced in a single pass. It achieves 6,000 booklets per hour in continuous operation. The addition of the HSF-50 high-speed sheet feeder enhances the flexibility of the system, which can alternate between roll and sheet feeding.

One step closer to total automation

In addition, Horizon presents a binding system integrating the iCE Binder BQ-300 and BQ-500, connected in-line to the iCE Trimmer HT-300 trimmer. The special feature of this system is the use of robotic arms to feed the book blocks to the binders.

At this event, the manufacturer also highlights the integration of the iCE Link cloud platform with the various systems presented, enabling real-time monitoring of operations and optimization of workflows.
