Agfa invests in water-based ink production

The Belgian group intends to respond to the increase in demand and is also targeting new applications.

Agfa will open a new production plant for water-based inkjet inks at Agfa's headquarters in Mortsel, Belgium. With this increase in production capacity, the Group aims to cover demand over the next five to ten years. Together with the already existing structures, the new plant will form a flexible production center with an R&D office and quality control.

"Over the past twenty years we have built an inkjet ink production platform for pilot and large scale projects that integrates pigment dispersion production, comprehensive quality control and ink uniformity programs, said Tom Cloots, Agfa's Director Industrial Inkjet. Our ink sales volumes have steadily increased, year after year, and we have gradually increased our production capacity. The time has now come to make new investments to meet the growing demands of the market."

Agfa also wants to enter new markets, including the printing of decorative paper for floor coverings and furniture panels.

The Belgian manufacturer also targets the packaging market, and in particular the corrugated board market, "by providing the most durable solution in terms of material, printing process and ink."
