Incident at the rotary printing plant in Sipa-Ouest-France

During the night of Wednesday 18 to 19 November, a major technical incident at the Angers printing works disrupted the production and distribution of the daily newspapers OuestFrance Sarthe and Angers, Free Maine and Courrier de l'Ouest of the Sipa-Ouest-France group.

Death of Charles-Henri Flammarion

Charles-Henri Flammarion, heir to the publishing house of the same name, died on Monday 9 November at the age of 74. Charles-Henri Flammarion was the great-grandson of Ernest Flammarion, the founder of the publishing house created in 1876.
He was appointed CEO of the family business on the death of his father Henri in 1985, which he ran with his two brothers. Under his leadership, in 1999, Flammarion bought the Belgian comic strip publisher Casterman. In 2000, Flammarion, then the fifth largest French publisher, was bought by the Italian group Rizzoli Corriere della Sera. Three years later, in 2003, the shareholders pushed it towards an exit. He then retired at the age of 57.

Computer security: printers print hackers' claims

Printers are sometimes targeted by hackers. A few weeks ago, we were in a relationship hacking into a self-service printer in a small stationery shop in Toulouse, which had printed terrorist messages during the night. This time, it's in Chile.
On November 14, the retail chain Cencosud (140?000 employees and 15 billion dollars in sales in 2019) had its ransom machines printing ransom demands, information revealed by the site specializing in ransom software Bleeping Computer and located in France by Numerama . Cencosud did not wish to communicate on this computer security problem, but it seems that this cyber attack reached all their points of sale and had repercussions on the company's operations.
It was Cencosud who was behind the attack. The cybercriminal organisation that emerged last September indicates in its messages that it has hacked into the group's data and asks to contact them within three days in order to exchange information.

Investment in the Aset printing plant

The Asset printing plant, located in Montreal in the Aude region of France, received a new highly automated cutter last week. Drivers are currently undergoing training.
The Inessens group company, which has a turnover of around 9 million euros, specialises in traditional and self-adhesive labels for the wine, spirits and food markets.

Mondi uses new logistics solution to reduce waste

For its kraftliner products, which are transported from the plant in Russia to its Italian customers, the Austrian paper group Mondi now uses roll-on/roll-off ships (or RoRo ships) instead of conventional truck loading.
ProVantage Komiwhite coils with a width of 280 cm, a diameter of 139 cm and a weight of almost four tons are now transported by ships equipped with a mobile access ramp allowing loading/unloading of the goods by towing from the edge to the dock.
It is no longer necessary to place them in shipping containers and the new transport route is faster.
Compared to conventional truck loading, this type of transport reduces product damage, delivery times and packaging waste.
