Fujifilm's new inkjet printing factory

With its new factory Fujifilm is banking on the growth of water-based inkjet printing.

And two. In April, Fujifilm will start construction of a new pigment dispersion production plant. The construction, which is expected to be completed by 2022, requires an investment of $19 million, or about 16 million euros.

Pigment dispersion is the main colorant in aqueous inkjet inks. These water-based pigmented inks require a stable and uniform dispersion of the pigments so that they do not clump and clog the printhead nozzles.

For pigment dispersions, Fujifilm uses its own technology called Reactive Dispersant (RxD). RxD creates a stabilization process that locks the pigment particles into a cross-linked polymer cage.

Currently, the development and manufacture of pigment dispersion with RxD technology is carried out at Fujifilm's factory in Grangemouth, Scotland. With this second dispersion plant, Fujifilm will strengthen its international supply capacity.

"RxD is a key technology for current and next generation water-based inkjet inks." says Ian Wilkinson, President and COO of Fujifilm Imaging Colorants Inc. Fujifilm uses RxD dispersions not only for its own inks, but also for other ink manufacturers around the world.

In the United States, Fujifilm also operates a water-based inkjet ink manufacturing plant. This pigment dispersion production facility will produce complete inkjet inks based on its dispersion technology.
