A 34 m finishing line at La Galiote of the Prenant group

This off-line chain accompanies the production of one of the printing presses of the company.

A second finishing line has just been installed at the La Galiote printing plant of the Prenant Group, headed by Laurent Prenant. The 34 m long line from the manufacturer Sodemal will be dedicated to the 16-page rotary press of the printing site in Vitry-sur-Seine in the Val-de-Marne.

This wide-web off-line finishing line is equipped with four Kodak S20 inkjet heads and stations for folding, gluing, die-cutting, gumming and sample application.

"It allows, after printing on a Goss M600 16-page web offset press, to produce in large quantities, complex products for direct marketing, distribution networks, or publishing (all-in-one mailing, folders, contests, couponing, press inserts ...)" explains Philippe Vanheste, the deputy general manager of the printing group with a turnover of 48 million euros.

A chain installed off-line for more flexibility

Regarding the off-line of the machine, he explains: "In France, there are hardly any inline finishing lines left behind the presses, since average print runs are decreasing. We prefer to dissociate printing and finishing: the press is not influenced by the speed of the finishing line which is longer.

On a 2-million-copy email run, for example, it saves us from idling on the finishing line or taking hours to stall a printing machine. It also means less paper waste."

Inkjet heads for maximum customization possibilities

And the four new inkjet print heads enhance the print shop's customization capabilities. " We are one of the few players with finishing and personalization capabilities. Today, we can personalize on a roto, a folding machine, a saddle stitcher, the Landa press and the finishing line."

He continues: " If the yes pub wins Will the personalization of printed matter increase? Whatever the future of this bill, we are compatible with continuing to make addressed mailboxes as well as making ISA mailboxes (printed without address, editor's note). We'll definitely have to print less if there's customization (because it's not the same price), but we want to be able to do both on all of our machines."
