Hubergroup launches first web offset inks for food packaging

Web offset printers can now meet the demand for paper food packaging.

Hubergroup launches the first coldset and heatset inks for food-compliant paper packaging.
Called MGA Food News and MGA Evolution, these series of four-color inks without mineral oils and with low migration are adapted to the packaging of bakery products, fast food (burgers, wraps) and fresh produce, but also to all other paper packaging in the food sector, says the German manufacturer.

MGA Evolution, for offset printing with heatset, and MGA Food News, for printing without heatset, are suitable for printing on the side of the packaging opposite the food.

Until now, only low-migration inks for sheetfed offset were available on the market. Thomas Stumpf, director of weboffset for the 3,500-employee group, explains: "Thanks to a special binder and careful selection of raw materials and production methods, we have succeeded in developing the first low-migration, low-odor web offset inks."

These inks have been subjected to practical tests and "in-depth" with customers, printers and the German special paper manufacturer Drewsen.

With these new press inks, the production of food-compliant paper packaging in large quantities is now possible.

Printers can use the new ink series on all coldset and heatset machines on the market.
