In August 2024, Grupo Gráfico Romo (GNM) broke the offset printing record by producing 9.5 million four-color (4/4) sheets in a single month - 31 consecutive days. A few months later, in December 2024 and January 2025, the Mexico-based printing plant achieved a new feat, printing 9.2 million sheets in just 29.25 days - an even higher speed per day.
These records establish Grupo Gráfico Romo as the holder of the two highest offset printing volumes ever recorded, according to Heidelberg counts. The Mexican company, one of Latin America's leading commercial and packaging printers, also holds the weekly record, with 2.483 million sheets printed in one week, a figure never achieved before.
Intensive production for unrivalled volumes
In record August, Grupo Gráfico Romo printed 9.5 million sheets (306,451 per day) on its Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 106-8P+L, capable of producing 18,000 sheets per hour. Between December and January, despite a slightly shorter month (702 production hours over 29.25 days), the company achieved 9.2 million sheets (or 314,529 per day) without any losses, maintaining a scrap rate of 0%.
This level of performance is all the more impressive in that it was achieved on a variety of prints. During the record December/January period, 179 different jobs were completed, involving 1,688 plate changes. The sheets produced, in weights ranging from 90 to 150 g/m², covered several formats and four types of substrate, with an average run length of 53,160 sheets.
Record-breaking technologies
The key element behind these records is the Speedmaster XL 106 press, installed in April 2024. Equipped with the Prinect Inpress Control 3 inline color control system, this press ensures fast, accurate set-ups right from the first sheets, reducing waste to an average of just 42 makeready sheets per job.
The Push to Stop methodology adopted by Romo GNM also played a central role. This automation model enables a fluid sequence of tasks, keeping human intervention to a minimum.
Records rooted in a strategy of excellence
But machines aren't everything. As soon as the Speedmaster XL 106 was installed, the company worked with a consultant to optimize its processes. By applying standard operating procedures and training its teams in advanced technologies, Romo GNM was able to take full advantage of the press's capabilities.
As Elías Sidauy, CEO of Grupo Gráfico Romo, points out: "These achievements are the result of a collective effort. Our teams have mastered the technologies and methodologies, and they are fully committed to this journey to transform the way we produce."
And the daily record broken this summer
And this summer, it's Moquin Press, an American label printing specialist, which broke the record the number of pages printed in 24 hours: on a Speedmaster XL 106, 452,755 sheets were produced in just one day.
