Canon Labelstream Southern Europe Sales Director Stéphane Giraudon introduces the new UV inkjet press.

Canon expands its Labelstream inkjet press range dedicated to self-adhesive label printing. The LabelStream 4000 Hybrid series (LabelStream 330 and LabelStream 410) is now joined by the Labelstream Core series, also available in two versions, LabelStream Core 330 and LabelStream Core 410.

A UV inkjet solution for accessible labeling

These two Labelstream Core UV inkjet presses, in widths of 330 cm and 410 cm, are designed for manufacturers of adhesive labels in small and medium production runs.

The Labelstream Core are the lighter versions of the LabelStream 4000 hybrid series. Stéphane Giraudon, Sales Director for Canon Labelstream Southern Europe, explains : "With the Labelstream launched at LabelExpo in September 2019, we started in the label press market with the most complex machine! Indeed, the Labelstream series is a hybrid press: it can integrate up to four flexo units in front of the inkjet and up to four flexo units behind as well as different finishing units"

He goes on to say: "Labelstream Core is a dedicated solution for UV inkjet printing (a flexo unit can be added however). This allows us to offer it at a more affordable price than the hybrid version."

A white with a silk-screen opacity

The Labelstream Core, which reaches 75 m/min, is available in 4, 5 or 6 colours plus white. The white, called Alpine White, comes, like the manufacturer's other inks, from a special formulation by Canon : "Blanc Alpin offers exceptional opacity of more than 80% at 40 m/min in a single pass (and 65% at 75 m/min). This level of opacity corresponds to the level obtained in screen printing."

The press is intended for labeling but Canon is currently working on the validation of flexible media (PE, PP, etc.).

Already 1,600 installations of Canon's inkjet roll solutions

And Stéphane Giraudon points out: "Canon machines are unique in that they are fully integrated printing solutions from Canon, which means that customers' only contact for service, consumables or maintenance is Canon, unlike other brands of UV inkjet."

And while Canon is a brand new entrant to the label printing solutions manufacturer market, the manufacturer points out : "Canon has real expertise and experience in inkjet. In industrial inkjet reel-to-reel machines alone (with the Colorstream and Prostream), we already have over 1,600 installations to our credit."
