Located in Lézignan-Corbières in the Aude region, the Caiiman digital printing workshop received two new machines last month, a Heidelberg digital press and a Duplo cutting table. The four-person workshop, which works in tandem with the group's two other sites, the De Bourg offset printing plant in Narbonne and Encre Verte in Perpignan, is thus renewing its printing press while opening up to the packaging market in very small runs.
"The Versafire EP 135 A4 pages per minute digital press has taken over from the previous Versafire 110 pages/min that we have had for four years, explains Sébastien Cayrol, Caiiman's manager. The Versafire is a machine that suits us well and this new model brings us a lot of little extras. It has an almost perfect register on long formats and an even better rendering. We are very satisfied! And it prints on thicker papers, up to 470 g/m 2 versus 350 previously."

And to take full advantage of this last possibility, the printer accompanied this Heidelberg press with a PFI Blade B3+ digital cutting table from Duplo.
"We had a precutting system that we were already using for labeling. With the PFI Blade, we can do vector cutting, half-flesh cutting and creasing in one pass."

By extending the workshop's processing possibilities, the printer wishes to develop the adhesive label and small series packaging markets. "We will be offering packaging and flap sleeves with scoring and die-cutting in very small batches, on beautiful graphic cards!"
