Brancher inks packaged in paper drums!

The steel of the 200-litre drums has been replaced by kraft.

Since a few weeks, the French manufacturer of printing inks Brancher delivers its products in a new packaging. The 200-liter steel ink drums have been replaced by drums of the same capacity but made of kraft paper.

These drums, produced in France by the Abzac group, are made of natural and recycled fibers, and only the lid and strapping are made of steel.

The trigger for this change was the steel shortage that has been felt for several months. "The steel problem has reinforced a process that was already well underway. The real motivations behind this decision are ecological and technical in order to improve on all points" says Joséphine Gobitta, communications manager for the group based in Tremblay-les-Villages in the Eure-et-Loir.

She adds: "It's a much more environmentally responsible solution: their manufacture produces less CO2 than steel drums and the paper is a renewable resource. Kraft drums also offer better technical advantages: they are stronger and lighter."

According to their manufacturer, the amount of CO2 emitted would be half as high and they would weigh 8-10 kg against 16-21 kg for their steel counterparts.

"Our company wants to be responsible and we want to limit our ecological footprint, we have developed vegetable-based inks in recent years, and in this approach, the transition to more responsible packaging came naturally."
