The health benefits of wine capsules and caps

A microbiological study has demonstrated the ability of still and sparkling wine capsules and caps to protect against bacteriological contamination and mold.
A laboratory working with the Crealis Group, an Italian company specializing in overcapping solutions, has compared wine bottles with and without capsules.

The laboratory immersed the bottles in an environment contaminated with bacteria such as Escherichia coli, responsible for the transmission of intestinal and extra-intestinal diseases by contact, and Staphylococcus aureus, the cause of acute infections easily transmitted by sneezing, and fungi responsible for mold. Samples were then taken from bottle rings and caps to observe bacterial and mould growth.

Results: no bacteriological or mould contamination was present on the ring of a bottle with a cap or liner, while intense growth was recorded on bottles without a cap or liner, with the presence of colonies widespread and abundant over the entire sampled surface.
