The increased power of prints by combining Canon and Scodix Ultra

Owners of a varioPrint iX or varioPrint i press can achieve high value-added finishes using Scodix Ultra digital solutions.

The growth potential of print with finishing is twice as high as that of CMYK digital printing, according to Keypoint Intelligence-InfoTrends. And profit margins can be as high as 400%. Brands also achieve better results with finished printed matter: potential customers spend more time on the printed matter (+18% in duration) and react positively faster (+45%) than with standard printed matter.

In this context good news for owners of a varioPrint iX sheetfed inkjet press launched in April 2020 or a varioPrint i released in 2015. Canon's varioPrint iX inks are compatible with Scodix PolySense 500 polymer.
Scodix PolySense 500 polymer is a clear liquid, which cures with UV lamps producing different optical and tactile effects on printed matter.

Four finishes and variable data management for high added value

For CMYK products printed on a varioPrint iX or varioPrint i and then processed on a Scodix press, printers can choose between four finishes - Scodix Sense, Scodix Foil, Scodix Glitter, Scodix Cast&Cure - and have the ability to enhance variable data (a feature called Scodix Variable Data Enhancement or Scodix VDE).
Scodix Sense can be used to create an embossed or shiny textured effect. Scodix Foil achieves a metallic effect without the need for dies or moulds. Scodix Glitter combines the Scodix Sense finish and Scodix Foil to create a digital glitter finish, as with real glitter. Scodix Cast&Cure produces 3D holographic effects.

Short, fast, cheaper and cheaper prints that have "really good-looking"

Kampert Nauta, located in the Netherlands, tested the compatibility between printed matter produced on its varioPrint iX and the application of Scodix' PolySense 500 polymer. " Our online commercial printing company was the first in the world in its field to invest in a varioPrint iX press. Greeting cards are one of our specialities and I have to say that the print quality on different thick substrates really surprised us. It looks like offset, testifies its managing director, Richard Kampert.

The printer continues: "We have since purchased a Scodix Ultra press to streamline our finishing operations with this nearline finishing system. With these two presses, we work faster, short runs cost us less and we have been able to develop and improve our range of services. Now we can respond faster to customer requests and produce prints that really look good."
