Cimpress announces that it has signed a large-scale investment agreement with HP for the latest generation of HP Indigo digital presses. With this agreement, the international online printing giant - with $2.7 billion in sales by 2020 and 14,000 employees worldwide - becomes HP's largest customer.
The parent company of Vistaprint, Exaprint, Pixartprinting, National Pen and WIRmachenDruck will install the new Indigo presses over the next two years. They will be used to expand the market for personalized printed products such as greeting cards, calendars and marketing materials.
This new fleet, whose number of machines was not revealed, will be mainly composed of the HP Indigo 100 K. Launched last year, this B2 press is designed for non-stop printing.
Demand for online printing heightened by health crisis
"More and more customers migrated during the pandemic to online print ordering, where Cimpress is the clear leader. We expect that after the pandemic most of these customers will continue to order online and we will continue to improve efficiencies and invest to better serve customers." says Robert Keane, founder and CEO of Cimpress.
High-volume automated production tests were conducted in 2020 at Cimpress plants in Europe. More than half of the new HP Indigo 100K machines will be installed in 2021.
The Cimpress executive adds: "Over the past few decades, HP has been instrumental in our growth, not only in volume, but also in print capability. We believe in our continued cooperation to strengthen our cost-competitiveness and our ability to satisfy our customers worldwide."
The manufacturer worked with Cimpress to develop this new press, to make sure it meets the market's needs for automation and print volume. HP also collaborated with a name in online printing, Germany's Onlineprinters, which acquired the first-ever HP Indigo 100K (read Onlineprinters acquires first HP Indigo 100K ).
