Konica Minolta and Fujifilm plan strategic alliance

A joint venture between Konica Minolta and Fujifilm could be set up by next September to optimize procurement, toner development and production efficiency for printing machines.

Konica Minolta and Fujifilm may create a joint venture. The two Japanese manufacturers will launch a study into the possibility of creating a strategic alliance.

The alliance has three objectives. The first is to coordinate the supply of raw materials and spare parts for their multifunction printers (MFPs), desktop printers and production printers.
"Rapidly changing MFP and printer market landscape calls for proactive measures" they explain in a joint press release.
This partnership would take the form of a joint venture in which Fujifilm would hold a majority stake. This joint venture could come into being in the second quarter of fiscal 2024, between June and September of this year.

Secondly, the two Japanese groups intend to develop and produce toner printing systems together.

Finally, they are planning further strategic collaborations in multifunction printers (MFPs), desktop printers and production printers.

Toshimitsu Taiko, President and CEO of Konica Minolta, said: "Sharing a common understanding of the challenges facing the business, the two leading companies will be able to mutually maximize their strengths through this alliance."
