Industrie 5.0: MGI solutions to discover at Drupa 2024

Drupa 2024: MGI, factory 5.0 enters the printing, packaging and self-adhesive label industries head-on factory 5.0, focused on human-machine collaboration At Drupa 2024, to be held from May 28 to June 7 in Düsseldorf, Germany, manufacturer MGI Digital Technology will be showcasing its single-pass digital printing and finishing solutions for packaging, publishing, web-to-print, commercial printing and self-adhesive label professionals. MGI Digital Technology will be presenting its range of digital printing and finishing solutions in sheet-fed (from SRA3 to B1 and B2) and reel-to-reel formats. Five MGI machines will be on show at Drupa 2024, including the AlphaJet, which will require almost 11 semi-trailers to install in Germany.

On a 3000 m 2 located in hall 8B, MGI will be exhibiting, with its partner Konica Minolta, its single-pass digital printing and finishing solutions dedicated to packaging, publishing, web-to-print, commercial printing and self-adhesive label professionals, at Drupa from May 28 to June 7 in Düsseldorf, Germany. Visitors will be able to observe first-hand the end-to-end production of packaging and various other printed products, thanks to real production workshops organized by trade.

The French manufacturer will be demonstrating five pieces of equipment: the AlphaJET, the flagship machine on the MGI-Konica stand, as well as the JETvarnish 3D Web 400, the JETvarnish 3 D Evo, the Octopus Web and the AccurioShine 3600 powerded by MGI.

MGI AlphaJet, the 5.0 digital printing and finishing plant

The AlphaJet, which will require almost 11 semi-trailers for transport to Drupa, is an all-digital 5.0 printing plant. It is capable of performing four operations in a single pass on B1 and B2 sheets: four-color aqueous inkjet printing at 1200 dpi, application of an OPV protective varnish replacing plastic lamination, application of a UV selective varnish and application of a hot foil stamping, either flat or embossed.
MGI will also be showcasing its extensive range of AlphaJet-certified substrates, with paper-maker partners such as Fedrigoini, RDM, Westrock, Mandeure and Eska.

MGI JETvarnish 3D Web 400, UV selective varnish and single-pass gold plating

MGI will be presenting its second-generation reel-to-reel digital finishing press, the JETvarnish 3D Web 400, which replaces the JETvarnish 3D Web.
This new press can now apply UV selective varnish and hot foil stamping, flat or embossed, in fixed or variable data, in a single pass, using technology derived from the AlphaJET.
"Equipped with a flexo unit, semi-rotary diecutter and double rewinder, the JETvarnish 3D Web 400 offers total versatility of use, on short, medium and long runs, on all types of substratesâeuros!" stresses the French manufacturer.

During demonstrations at Drupa, the JETvarnish 3D Web 400 will ennoble reels of natural and synthetic papers, as well as reels of UPM's eco-sourced PP, previously printed on Konica Minolta's AccurioLabel 400 and 230 digital presses.

MGI JETvarnish 3 D Evo, digital finishing in B1 and B2

MGI's JETvarnish 3 D Evo, a B1 and B2 sheet-fed digital finishing press, applies UV selective varnish and hot foil stamping, flat or embossed, in fixed or variable data, on all types of paper with or without lamination.
At the German show, the JETvarnish 3 D Evo will be connected to a Konica Minolta automatic workflow, and will ennoble B2 prints from Konica's KM1 digital inkjet press, as well as offset-printed B1s.

Octopus Web, the four-headed digital cutter

Last but not least, the Octopus Web, a machine in the field of reel-to-reel digital die-cutting, will also be on show at Drupa 2024. This unique solution uses 4-axis cutting heads equipped with professional cutting blades.
This technological choice of blades rather than lasers reconciles the best of traditional and digital technology, while being compatible with synthetic substrates (PVC, PP) and cotton paper (without the burn marks of lasers), for reduced power consumption, explains MGI.
"Thanks to the Octopus Web, PDF to Cut becomes a reality, on all types of substrates, coated, uncoated and synthetic papers, at the highest level of quality." he adds.

In front of visitors, the Octopus will cut reels printed on Konica's AccurioLabel 400 digital press and ennobled with the MGI JETvarnish 3D Web 400.

Digital technology for greater respect for the environment

At Drupa, MGI will be highlighting the eco-responsibility of its digital technologies. "Eliminating waste and generating 30% energy savings compared with conventional equipment, MGI solutions feature certified de-inkable varnishes and hot foil stamping on certain substrates, using the Ingede 11 process."

Machine connectivity for entry into Industry 5.0

Visitors can also learn more about the MGI Jetforce social network and MGI Connect connected solutions.
The MGI Connect cloud-based platform, with its MGI Approve and MGI Dashboard tools, enables online submission of 3D and augmented-reality proofs to customers, remote production monitoring, order archiving, real-time machine fleet monitoring and predictive maintenance.
"Connected to a secure cloud through MGI Connect, MGI equipment is an opportunity for printers, to get right into Industry 5.0 (...) These solutions reduce costs while offering better quality of service, for greater industrial resilience."
