Canon Colorado 1650 tested by Keypoint Intelligence

Keypoint Intelligence believes that the UVgel printer "really stands out for virtually any large format printing application."

Image quality, speed, ease of use... Canon's Colorado 1650 64-inch reel-to-reel printer has been put under the microscope by Keypoint Intelligence. And the evaluation office has just revealed its conclusions.
This CMYK machine has achieved excellent results in all categories. "The Colorado 1650 is an impressive machine in every way. It really stands out for virtually any large format printing application."

The Canon Colorado 1650, three times faster than average

In addition to its robustness, the report notes the speed of the machine in all usage scenarios: in every mode tested, the Canon displays speeds two to three times faster than the average of competing models.

And its automatic maintenance, user-replaceable components, and on-the-fly ink change further improve uptime and optimize production times.

A printing technology offering colors "of great vivacity"

The report's authors also liked canon's UVgel printing technology and its FLXfinish curing. The color prints have "always a great vivacity and an exceptional neutrality in the black and white half-tones" .
The report also states that "the Colorado 1650 reproduces Pantone hues with remarkable accuracy, displaying Delta E00 values that average no more than 2.32 across 15 colors defined in a graphic chart."

"FLXfinish technology also improves the device's handling of more porous materials such as flexible signage and uncoated substrates, as each ink droplet is attached immediately (due to the gel properties), resulting in better dot gain control and a sharper image."

Experts also appreciated the ability to produce matte finishes easily. "Thanks to both the UVgel 460 ink set and FLXfinish technology, Keypoint Intelligence technicians can easily switch from gloss to matte without having to change inks or media."

All these features make it a very interesting machine for the growing market of digital wallpaper printing.

A very easy to use large format web press

The report also highlights its ease of use, including its 10.5-inch command panel and remote control app. The Canon also simplifies media handling and allows for double-sided and inside-out printing. This allows it to run unattended for longer periods of time.

"We are very pleased that our Colorado 1650 scored so well, as Keypoint Intelligence's evaluations of large-format printers for signage are very stringent. As the report indicates, the performance of this machine is excellent." says Mathieu Peeters, Director of Large Format Marketing Strategy at Canon Production Printing
"Keypoint Intelligence is an independent organization, so a favorable review gives us even more strength in guaranteeing the quality and productivity of our printer to our customers and partners. It also proves that it is an excellent choice for digital wallpaper printers, whose market is growing rapidly."
