ProStream 2000: Canon improves the cost/performance ratio of its reel-to-reel inkjet range

Canon ProStream 2000

The two new ProStream 2080 and 2133 models offer, according to Canon, a 20% cost/performance improvement over the ProStream 3080 and 3133 models.

Canon launches a third high-speed inkjet reel range, the ProStream 2000. Presented worldwide at Drupa 2024, this new 558 mm-wide range comprises two models: the ProStream 2080, which reaches 80 meters per minute (6,800 B2 sheets per hour duplex) and the ProStream 2133, at 133 meters per minute (or 11,300 B2 sheets per hour duplex).

The ProStream 2000 is aimed at book printers who produce mainly on uncoated stocks, but are looking to diversify into coated stocks, as well as direct marketers who, in addition to reports and invoices, want to produce direct mailings, brochures or newsletters.

ProStream 2000, a wider range of print media

Compared with the ProStream 3080 and ProStream 3133, which have similar speeds and widths, it has a 20% improved cost/performance ratio, says Canon, thanks in particular to availability of over 90%. It is also more compact, losing two meters in length (16 x 4 m vs. 18 x 4 m), and the drying and cooling sections have been improved, with better heat transfer to the paper.

The ProStream 2000 is compatible with coated, uncoated and inkjet-optimized substrates from 28 to 300 g/m² 2 and on standard offset substrates up to 150 g/m 2 . (The ProStream 3000 series handles substrates from 60 g/m 2 as with the Canon ProStream 3000 system, this range offers automated splice processing.

Certified print quality

Its new set of polymer pigment inks extends the color palette with more sparkling reds and deeper blacks, ensures better abrasion resistance and prepares the substrate for varnish application.

Its 1200 DPI piezoelectric printheads with drop-on-demand technology and the Canon Smart ColorGrip solution ensure offset-equivalent print quality at rated speeds, while widening the range of acceptable weights/speeds, stresses Canon.

Canon's Inline Quality Control camera technology checks print quality and automatically makes adjustments in real time.

And its ink supply system for high-speed printing with high coverage rates ensures uniform print quality. This print quality has been independently validated by the Fogra Research Institute for Media Technologies, which awarded it an A grade - its highest rating for Fogra 51 certification.
