Cimpress orders Canon digital presses

Cimpress invests in Canon's inkjet technology to enhance its flexibility and performance.

Canon announced that it has reached an agreement with global online printing giant Cimpress. The Japanese manufacturer of sheet-fed and web printing presses will supply products and technology, including inkjet presses, to various companies at multiple locations of the $2.7 billion group, "to strengthen its leadership position in the fast-growing online printing industry" .

The parent company of Vistaprint, Pixartprinting, Easyflyer, Drukwerkdeal, WIRmachenDRUCK and Druck.at, which is also equipped with hP digital machines or Landa, indicates that "inkjet technology plays a key role in providing flexibility and performance" .

Christian Unterberger, Chief Operating Officer and Board Member of Canon Production Printing, confirms: "High-speed inkjet technology is taking printers to the next level in the digitalization of their printing business. Industrialized productivity, print quality that rivals offset, and access to an automated digital workflow are all key reasons for printers to invest in their growth, now and for the future."

"It's also an effective way to reduce waste and help achieve our sustainability goals." adds Robert Keane, founder and CEO of Cimpress.

While the models of machines ordered have not been disclosed, Canon points out that since the launch of the varioPRINT iX in April 2020, sales of B3 sheetfed inkjet presses are increasing. More than 100 machines in this series have been sold in this first year, and 40% of these printers are new customers. In addition, "The varioPRINT iX series has proven to be an investment made by many, many commercial print customers and inline printers due to its offset-like quality, ultra-reliable throughput and sheetfed application flexibility."
