While many Chinese manufacturers offer wall-mounted printers, there are few manufacturers in other regions. But now the European continent has a manufacturer. Wallpen is a German company headed by Andreas Schmidt. In fact, Andreas Schmidt started building his own printer when he wanted to start selling Chinese printing machines, but was disappointed with the performance and quality of the other machines. In February 2017, he launches his first model after filing 15 patents.
Made in Germany, the professional WallPen printer produces full-color prints directly on walls and would fit any interior and exterior wall texture.
Transportable in six modules, the 90 kg printer can be installed in a few minutes in front of the walls to be printed. The device moves automatically on a patented platform along the wall. An integrated laser sensor detects uneven surfaces and adjusts the print heads by up to 10 cm.

The printing works with four CMYK printheads with DOD (Drop-on-Demand) inkjet and UV curing. WallPen can print images up to 4 m high and unlimited widths.
The ink is compatible with plaster, wallpaper, wood, brick, paint, stone, plastic, glass, most tiles and other materials. Wallpen prints from 0.8 to 8 min 2 s/h depending on the selected resolution. The ink retains its quality for 3 to 6 years outdoors and 12 years indoors with a transparent UV coating.
On the resolution side, Wallpen prints at 185 × 185 DPI, 370 × 370 DPI, 370 × 600 and 370 × 720 DPI. "Typically, most images are rasterized and printed at 370 x 600 real DPI. This seems relatively little, but (...) the real (!) 370 × 600 dpi on the wall is really super and clearly sufficient" indicates the manufacturer.
